Latitudes of Learning

Every morning, Rosemary walks to school. The hike is long and the landscape familiar - full of the trees, mountains and rocks of her small village in rural South Africa. But when Rosemary reaches her classroom, another type of journey awaits - one that offers her views of the new and unknown.

With a Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA) Learning Center, Rosemary's school introduces its students to the incredible world beyond their horizons.

"What I like most about the television is that it takes the things that are far away from us, the things that we as a school can't reach, and it brings it to us," said Rosemary.

DLA's educational videos offer Rosemary new heights of learning. Through them, she discovers unknown words and distant places like the "equator" and the "North Pole."

"Everything is new, very new to me," Rosemary said.

Now, the world is no longer at a distance, but within reach. And just how to get there? Rosemary knows the answer: "Education is the thing that is going to take me far."
