500 Days and Counting

As of August 2014, only 500 days remained to reach the UN Millennium Development Goal for Universal Primary Education by the end of 2015. Despite early strides in this effort, 58 million primary school children remain out of school and millions more are not learning. With time running out, leaders, campaigners, celebrities and organizations from around the world have rallied in an Emergency Coalition for Global Education Action to motivate the international community to get every child in school and learning.

Joining the #EducationCountdown as media partners, Discovery Learning Alliance joins campaigners to catalyze the movement with a series of PSAs (public service announcements) which Discovery Communications is airing on U.S. and internationally-based channels.

The coalition was convened by United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown, who said the education crisis is "unacceptable from a moral, economic and global security perspective."
